Autopsy shows baby Leah died from 'blunt force trauma'

Posted: Updated:

Preliminary autopsy reports have been released for the toddler whose body was found in the basement of a caretaker's home.

The report shows the 2 year old, who is presumed to be missing Crosbyton toddler Leah Aguirre, died from blunt force trauma.

The Crosbyton police chief released a statement today officially declaring the death a homicide.

Officials are still waiting on DNA analysis to confirm the identity of the child.

Once the DNA results are confirmed, the body can be released to the family for funeral arrangements.

The grand jury will meet February 19th, 2013 to determine whether there is enough evidence to indict Matilda Almaraz, Aguirre's caregiver at the time.

Almaraz is being charged with capital murder, which means if found guilty she could be put to death.
