Area students participate in annual robotics contest

More than 90 area students designed and presented their own robotic creations Saturday during the TCEA Area 16 Robotics Competition.

The 26 teams of students from 4th to 12th grades created their own robot and programmed it to perform a specific task. Their creations, which took six weeks to build, were judged and the top two teams in each event will go on to the state robotics contest in April. Organizers say it's a perfect combination of education and fun.

"The best thing about the robotics contest is it ties in the science, technology, engineering and math and it ties in with what we're doing in school.," said Debbie Boyer, TCEA Area 16 Director. "It's just a really team building activity with collaboration, communication and teamwork all put together."

TCEA is a member-based state-wide organization devoted to the use of technology in education.
