Winter storm moves east after covering West Texas

Posted: Updated:

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - West Texas is recovering after a winter storm that dumped several inches of snow before moving east.

El Paso City Hall and the University of Texas at El Paso reopened Friday after a delay due to snowy conditions. The Texas Department of Transportation reopened Interstate 10 Friday afternoon after snow and ice closed it from Fort Hancock to Van Horn on Thursday. However, U.S. 62-180 remains closed from El Paso to the New Mexico border.

The National Weather Service reports El Paso received up to 4 inches of snow, with 4 to 8 inches reported in the West Texas mountains and foothills.

Anywhere from a trace of snow to 6 inches was reported in the rest of West Texas, but the storm fizzled before reaching North and Central Texas.
