Salvation Army holiday needs

Amarillo, Texas - More children are without this holiday season compared to last year.

Several people have claimed angels from the angel tree, but are yet to bring in their gifts.

The angel tree collection day has come and gone, but Major Harvey Johnson says you can still bring in your presents, and they will be put to good use.

The Amarillo Salvation Army spent close to 50,000 dollars on food products and turkeys this year to provide to families over the holidays.

But many children are still in need of gifts this Christmas.

Major Harvey Johnson says, "we've had an increase in about 19 percent in those who we've approved for assistance this year over last year. Of course their's greater demands. We've had people stepping up and selecting more of the angels. The challenge that we have is that we haven't gotten all of the angels back."

There were people having to wait today when coming to pick up their gifts because their weren't enough volunteers.

If you're interested in volunteering over the holidays, you can call 373-6631.
