Restoring the holiday spirit in Newtown

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - Many people are wondering how they can help those who were affected by Friday's Connecticut school shooting. Well, a local radio station is doing it's part.

You can bring your holiday gifts to get wrapped for free, your kids to take pictures with Santa, but what KISS FM is asking residents to bring to their "Wrap It Up" event are holiday cards.

KISS FM's Dallas Chambers says their goal is to restore the Christmas spirit to those affected by the Sandy Hook shooting. He says they wanted to do more than just ask for donations for victims' families.

"For the parents, the peers, the friends and family to see, you know, people actually caring and going out of their way to show it. We were looking for something different to do. Something different, but something that still said hey we care, and we want you to know that we care. Because, I mean in the end there is nothing that we can do to bring their kid back. There's nothing at all," Chambers says.

Fifty cards were collected at their event on Saturday. You can still drop off holiday cards until Friday at their two remaining Wrap It Up events, or KISS FM studios near 34th and Bell in Amarillo. More information can be found on their website.
