Twogether in Texas program

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, Texas - Some local couples are setting aside a day of their time for a program to help their relationships last a lifetime.

Together in Texas is an 8 hour course, and if completed, your marriage license will cost only 11 dollars.

It will also exempt you and your fiance from the 3 day waiting period.

There were a lot less couples walking down the aisle in our area than expected on 12-12-12, a day some are calling momentous.

But if your expecting to say I do, state officials are hoping this program will help prevent divorce, which remains over 50 percent.

The program is based on learning effective communication skills to make your marriage last.

The Potter County Clerk doesn't think many residents are aware it even exists, or more would be taking advantage.

Julie Smith says, "we just kind of ran a report. We just kind of did it since July and we saw that we issued 34 of those marriage licenses. Now whether or not all of those people who got their marriage licenses actually got married, I don't know. But as far as the actual application we issued 34 of them."

She says those 34 purchased with the Twogether in Texas certificate of completion were out of a total of 460.
