Goodwin Orthodontics reopens

Good news for patients of a local dentist who shut his doors shortly after being federally accused of medicaid fraud.

Patients can now go to Goodwin Orthodontics for care. They've just reopened after about a month of having locks on doors and leaving patients without answers.

I tried contacting Doctor Michael Goodwin and his attorney several times since last week, and they refuse to give any information.

The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners says Doctor Goodwin's license is current without restrictions and doesn't expire until October of next year. They can't place him on probation or suspend him unless he's convicted, giving the doctor the right to still see patients at this time.

Jerry Lister took his son for an appointment today and says they told him in order to get the records he needs to come back mid December to sign a release, his son needs to take photos and x-rays, and pay $45 for the transfer.

Lister says, "I'm not too sure if I need the medical records if I have to start over with another doctor. So we're kind of contemplating that."

There are other options for patients. Familia Dental in Amarillo says they're making an exception seeing patients of Doctor Goodwin without records who are in need of care.
