Giving Tuesday starts this year

Amarillo, TX - A new "after Thanksgiving" day has started, but has nothing to do with shopping.

We just survived Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. But, another day has been added to that list.  It is called "Giving Tuesday." But it isn't a day dedicated to shopping. It is a day of giving back.

And a big part of it involves social media. The creators are urging those giving back today to involve social media and tweet what they did today, using "#givingtuesday."

High Plains Food Bank says they hope people of the panhandle get involved on Giving Tuesday whether is by donating money, items, or even your time.

"It's really such a basic but novel idea. We have a Black Friday and a Black Monday and so many things centered around spending which is good for the economy but at the same time, you know, what are we doing to give back to the organizations," Zack Wilson, High Plain Food Bank executive director says.

The High Plains Food Bank has yet to track how Giving Tuesday had impacted them, but say they hope this encourages people to give back all year long and not just one day.
