High-speed chase ends in Amarillo when man wrecks into gas truck

A high speed chase that started in Oldham County came to a crashing stop when the suspect wrecked near a gas station along I-40 in Amarillo Sunday evening around 5:30.

Oldham County Sheriff David Medlin reports a male suspect ran a stop sign in Vega going about 85 miles per hour Sunday afternoon shortly after four. He then led state troopers on a high speed chase, speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour, from Vega to Amarillo.

At one point, the driver avoided a set of spikes set out by DPS, but eventually wrecked into the Chevron gas station at I-40 and Coulter.

The driver hit a Chicken Express sign and a gas truck that was refueling pumps. Fortunately, there was no explosion nor injuries reported. Troopers arrested the driver, but tell NewsChannel 10 they're still unsure why he originally ran from officers.
