Afghanistan - Doctors are having trouble handling a particular complication from the war in Afghanistan.

A fungus is thought to exist in the afghan soil and infects troops when they're wounded by ieds.
The fungus has so far proved to be undetectable at first.

That means when doctors amputate, they miss areas that are infected.

This results veterans having to make return trips for further amputations.

The organism has already infected about 100 troops, killing six of them.
