A few folks in the Amarillo area got a new addition to their families this weekend in the form of a furry four-legged friend.
To help recognize National Adoption Weekend, the Amarillo SPCA hosted an adoption event at PetSmart all weekend long. During the three day event, ASPCA adopted out at least five dogs to a long-awaited forever home. That's something volunteers with the no-kill shelter called a successful weekend, especially since they've been struggling with adoptions in recent weeks.
"Things have been really quiet lately with both the dogs and the cats," said one ASPCA volunteer. "I think people, you know when football comes we have to compete with football and perhaps maybe with the election, the economy discussion and so forth make people a little more cautious."
YOu can still adopt pets from ASPCA anytime, not just during an adoption event. Their office, located at 11901 S. Coulter in Amarillo, is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to five and on Saturdays from one to five.
