More local Red Cross volunteers sent north for hurricane cleanup

Posted: Updated:

Two more American Red Cross Texas Panhandle Chapter volunteers have been sent up north to assist in the hurricane recovery efforts.

The two volunteers, Brady Christian of Amarillo and Roseann Langevin of Dumas, left Saturday morning and were headed to the New York City area.  NewsChannel 10 was told Sunday they still didn't have a specific assignment yet, however, it's believed they'll mainly be helping with mass care.

"We know it'll be in mass care. They'll be helping with sheltering, feeding, delivering of supplies, to people that are helping with the cleanup, but that haven't been assigned just yet," explained the chapter's Emergency Services Field Specialist Martha Riddlespurger. "At the end of three weeks it's very likely that we'll be sending up new people because they'll send all of those people home and do a transition period and bring up new volunteers who aren't as tired and will work the second shift."

The local chapter also sent an Emergency Response Vehicle, or "ERV" to the New York City area to provide additional assistance.
