ENMU faces sanctions by NCAA

Posted: Updated:

Portales, NM - A large number of student athletes at Eastern New Mexico University have been competing while ineligible.

Now the university is scrambling to correct the problems.

The university is in the process of correcting several administrative oversights that have led to all of these eligibility issues across all sports.

University President Steven Gamble wants to stress it was the university that brought these violations to light in the first place and no players or coaches have been dishonest or deceitful in any way.

These were basically clerical issues, most of which have to do with various forms not being filled out to fulfill NCAA compliance.

There were cases of academic ineligibility and those are also being addressed, but Gamble says most are largely due to a lousy process by the university that is now being fixed.

Gamble expects punishment from the NCAA by mid November.

He also wanted to mention both the league and WT in fact have been very helpful in correcting the issues.
