Rivalry week in Amarillo

Amarillo, Texas - This year a Liaison Officer from AISD says spirit week is turning out to be different than last year.

The Athletic Director is even calling it quiet.

Law enforcement says so far there have been no balloons filled with paint, or even harsh words exchanged.

The Athletic Director says timing is a main reason.

The game is only 2 weeks after school started instead of around a couple months in years past.

The game is still equally as important he says, but not being back in school very long has kept things more relaxed.

A Liaison Officer for Amarillo High School agrees that timing is part of the reason. He says,"there weren't too many problems and I want to say I attribute that to cooperation between AISD and the Amarillo Police Department stepping up enforcement on any problems that were going on in the neighborhood, egging, toilet papering, stuff like that."

He also says both schools have 24 hour security, with security guards on both campuses throughout the night.

The Athletic Director also told me he believes kids just don't want to get in trouble as law enforcement efforts have been stepped up.

Hopefully that won't change at or after the game tonight.
