DWI patrols will be out this Labor Day weekend

Amarillo, Texas - Extra patrols will be out this Labor Day weekend.

Amarillo police announced Wednesday that they will have officers designated to look for people who have been drinking and driving.

A grant from TxDOT is helping to fund this project, which runs through Monday.
  
The City of Portales in New Mexico also announced they will have DWI checkpoints set up at various places inside the city limits.

Labor Day is one of the most deadly periods on U.S. highways.
