Amarillo's response to hurricane Isaac

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, Texas - Tropical storm Isaac has reached hurricane status and is expected to surface late Tuesday or early Wednesday morning.

Some area organizations are preparing for the worst.. and hoping for the best.

The community is coming together to help those that may be affected by the damaging winds hurricane Isaac is producing.

The Red Cross of Amarillo is being proactive and acting now.

They have set up three active shelters in Tyler, Texarkana, and Desoto.

The Christian Relief Fund wants those in the hurricane's path to know that they can count on them for food, clothing and shelter.

They're also reaching out to the community for their help.

Marisa Frazier of the American Red Cross says, ""If people would like to donate, they can visit  www.redcross.org, call 1-800-REDCROSS or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation"

These area organizations are coming together to assist in any way they can and are asking for your help.

The hurricane is not expected to be as damaging as Katrina, but any help is appreciated.
