Amarillo, TX - With school starting for hundreds of area students, drivers are urged to be cautious.
The Share the Road organization says around this time of year more pedestrians and bicyclists are on the road.
Their main mission is to keep roads safer for everyone.
"If you're a driver and you don't have a need to be in a school zone area when you're leaving your neighborhood, pick an alternate route because the school zone areas are going to be heavily congested, especially tomorrow morning. Parents be mindful of the fact that there are school zone speed limits in place and also, the City of Amarillo does have a ban on using any wireless communication device," says Kenneth Graham, Share the Road Organization.
That includes texting and talking on a cell phone.
The Share the Road organization say its important to slow down and keep both hands on the wheel.
The reason the organization is able to stay alive is by the support of the community.
If you would like to help the non-profit, they will be having a fundraiser September 15th at 24th and Jackson.
It will be a 5K run and for those who would rather walk, they will have a one mile fun walk.
Registration is currently ongoing.
The money raised will help the organization spread awareness and continue putting up share the road signs in our area.
