Will Rogers Range Riders "Rope for a Cure"

Amarillo, TX - An area foundation is helping children with diabetes this weekend.

It's the fourth year that the Will Rogers Range Riders "Rope for the Cure" has raised money for juvenile diabetes.

For the Thompson family it's not just about roping, it's real life.

Their daughter Avery has type 1 diabetes and this week is about helping others.

"The diagnosis is a range of emotions, you go through fear, anger, misunderstanding," says Jerry Don Thompson, Ropin' for a Cure.

The "Rope for the Cure" holds roping schools all week and team and calf roping's along with a golf tournament.

All of the money goes to help children in our are area, just like 9 year old Avery.

Without faith and help, she would not be doing so well and helping others.

"There was a new diabetic at my school, she was always afraid to prick her finger by herself so I told her she could do it. I said I have faith in you, she did it the next day," says Avery Thompson, type 1 diabetic.

This event also helps raise money for type one diabetic kiddo's, so they can go to a 3 week summer camp that helps educate and manage the disease.

The Thompson's say that support is important and this event is helping find a cure.

"Its a frustrating thing but also a blessing because we get to be a part of this, to find a cure and to work hard to come together as a family, as a community, as friends.

Just another reason why the panhandle cowboys up for their own.
