Army recruiter arrested in Clovis pleads guilty to child exploitation

Clovis, New Mexico - A United States Army recruiter who was arrested for trying to have sex with an underage Clovis girl pleads guilty in court. Tuesday morning in Albuquerque, the United States Department of Justice says 26 year old Arnold Gonzales pleaded guilty to one charge relating to crossing state lines to have sex with an underage girl.
Gonzales was arrested in Clovis on May 2nd of this year. Court records show he had been communicating via text and e-mail with what he thought was a 12 year old Clovis girl. When Gonzales arrived in Clovis, he found the underage girl to actually be an undercover deputy with the Curry County Sheriff's Office.
This sting was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to help combat the growing problem of child exploitation and abuse. www.projectsafechildhood.gov
