DALLAS - Five children traveling across the country are in the custody of authorities after their mother died.

The mother and her children were waiting in line Friday at the Greyhound station in Dallas. A Greyhound spokeswoman tells The Dallas Morning News says the mother had a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital, where she died.

The mother has been identified as 29-year-old Felicia Hayles. The Dallas County Medical Examiner's office says she died from blood clots due to obesity.

The family was traveling from Mississippi to Oregon. The children stayed with Greyhound officials until police officers took them to Child Protective Services. CPS has contacted the children's father.

Greyhound says it will take the children to Oregon for free.
