Authorities: Trucker fatally beats alleged burglar

HOUSTON (AP) - Authorities say a trucker beat to death a 60-year-old man he found burglarizing his 18-wheeler parked in Houston.

The Harris County Sheriff's Department says a trucker had parked his vehicle shortly before midnight Monday and returned with his wife later to find found two men burglarizing his 18-wheeler.

Deputies tell Houston television station KHOU the suspects fled, but the truck driver caught 1 of them. Deputies say the two fought and the suspect tried to hit the trucker with a metal bar. They say the trucker snatched the metal bar from the suspect and beat him with it.

Deputies say the suspect was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The second suspect fled into the woods and has not been found. No identities were released.
