"Nigerian Internet scams" promising millions overnight if a user will just send some money to an unknown foreign person may be intentionally unbelievable.
Researchers say the scammers do this so that only the most gullible of Internet users are sucked in.
This is because while sending out thousands of emails is easy but the rest of the scam is time-consuming and expensive.
So in order to ensure they aren't wasting their time, the scammers only target those who the entire scam is most likely to work on.
