Amarillo, TX - A young boy remains in critical condition Wednesday afternoon after police say he was severely burned.
Amarillo police say a woman flagged down an officer at the police station Monday evening saying she needed help with her almost two year old son.
Officers found what they believed to be severe burns on the child's face and forehead.
Once he was taken to the hospital, officers say they found more injuries on his back and groin area.
Police arrested Ismael Gardea Navarrette for injury to a child around midnight Wednesday at a home on the 200 block of Independence, but say they believe the incident happened at a home on the 22-hundred block of Seth.
"The fact that the child had been injured during the time that he was with Mr. Navarette. Mr. Navarette failed to seek medical care for the child when it was obvious the child was seriously injured. We were able to obtain a warrant for Mr. Navarette for injury to a child," said Lt. Martin Birkenfeld with the Crimes Against Persons Division at the Amarillo Police Department.
