Clovis, New Mexico - The extreme conditions fueling fires in New Mexico have prompted Curry County officials to ban aerial fireworks in the county.

County commissioners voted Tuesday morning to ban the sale and the use of all aerial fireworks inside the county beginning Tuesday, June 12th and will be in place for the next 30 days.

Anyone caught selling fireworks could be fined up to $1,000.00 dollars and up to one year in jail. Commissioners also voted to extend the current burn ban for an additional 45 days.
