Smoke in our area from massive New Mexico fire

Posted: Updated:

Ruidoso, NM - The smoke over much of the Texas Panhandle Saturday came from an extreme fire north of Ruidoso, New Mexico that continues to grow.

Wildland firefighters had contained the Little Bear Fire at 100 acres Friday before winds turned the blaze into a raging inferno.

Saturday morning the U.S. Forest Service estimated the size of the fire at 10-thousand acres and reported 15-20 structures had been damaged or destroyed.

Hundreds of people have had to evacuate the area.

The National Weather Service has issued red flag warnings for critical fire conditions covering much of Southern, Central, Northern, Eastern and Northeastern New Mexico.

Our area is expected to see more plumes of smoke on Sunday.
