Dozens of families who have lost a loved one were recognized. News Channel 10's Walt Howard emceed the event.

There were also several guest speakers who talked about the importance of freedom.

"I'm out here from North Carolina because America Supports You, Texas is so successful. Their profile is so high that people around the country know about the efforts here.  Texas, as we all know, is a very patriotic state and there's no shortage of veterans," veteran, author and guest speaker Ilario Pantano said.

Two of the remaining survivors of the USS Indianapolis disaster, which is recorded as the worst in US naval history, were honored with an award for their patriotism.  Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst was also there to share some words of wisdom.
