Velasquez, who's accused of being part of the prison-based Texas Mafia, was sought over a March 17 attack on South Padre Island. The male victim survived the beating and stabbing.
DPS says Tuesday's arrest of Velasquez led to the seizure of 6 handguns, an assault rifle, body armor, plus heroin, cocaine and marijuana.
He's facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful carrying of a weapon, theft of property, criminal mischief, possession of marijuana, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and evading arrest.
Two other suspected gang members were also arrested. Further details weren't immediately released.
