Teenage suspect arrested for number of burglaries

Amarillo, TX - An area teen is behind bars after police believe he is linked to several burglaries in our area.

Early this morning, Amarillo police were called out to a home in the 6900 block of Logan on a burglary in progress.

Authorities tell us the resident of the home reportedly saw a white male inside the garage before fleeing.  Shortly after, an officer responded to the 6300 block of Stoneham on reported auto burglaries.

That's when a truck was seen pulling out of a nearby alley.  The officer stopped the vehicle driven by 19 year-old Colton Taylor Jones and discovered a large amount of personal property inside.  We're told that some of the items found were connected to other burglaries in the area.

Jones was booked into Randall County Jail on preliminary charges of burglary of a habitation and theft of a firearm.

As many as three burglaries in the area were committed by a suspect stealing a remote garage door opener from a vehicle parked in the driveway, allowing the criminal to gain access into the garage.

Amarillo police are now urging residents to remove their garage remote from vehicles instead of just locking the doors.
