Area school announces its shutting their doors for good

AMARILLO- Arbor Christian Academy will close at the end of the school year following a decline in enrollment.

The final day for classes will be May 25.

"There have been some tears," Communication Director Kelli Bullard said. "It's an emotional time for the families and the students."

The school located at 5000 Hollywood Rd. has been in operation for 24 years.

Enrollment spiked during the 2001-2002 school year with more than 420 students.

Only 290 students were enrolled this school year.

Current enrollment includes:

126 elementary school students

73 junior high school students

91 high school students

About 50 faculty and staff members will be out of work following the closing.

Amarillo ISD as well as Canyon ISD says they hire teachers throughout the year.

Applications and links to the paperwork process can be found on each of the districts websites.
