Shriners volunteers take to the streets to raise cash

Amarillo, TX - Staff from the Shriners Hospitals for Children held their annual paper drive today.

They stood at the corner of five major intersections, trying to raise money for 22 of their hospitals they have across the country, two of them are located here in Texas.

Their mission is to provide care to children who are crippled or burned and otherwise would not be able to receive medical care.

There were many people who came out to help with the fundraiser.

"It's so heart-warming to see the community give to such a great cause," Miss Teen Texas Khrista Newman said, "They really understand what it is all about.  To see people pay it forward to people that deserve it, it's definitely very heart-warming."

Free hospital care has been offered since the first Shriners Hospital opened nearly 90 years ago.
