PORTALES, NM -- The Portales Police Department is under fire, after an outside investigation found it to have a laundry list of problems.
The review shows the department as having a lack of communication, sloppy handling of evidence, and officer intimidation.
The report also notes Chief Jeff Gill has been placing tremendous authority on his supervisors.
This comes after Deputy Chief Lonnie Berry was charged last year, with three felony counts of tampering with public records.
Gill says he is already making changes and takes full responsibility.
The city council will discuss the evaluation next week.
