Palo Duro Canyon is now fully open to the public after a three-day bike race for wounded service men and women.
The Bush Center's Warrior 100K is part of former President George W. Bush's military service initiative, which highlights the bravery and sacrifice of U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This morning the former President and an event volunteer assisted one of the wounded warriors up a steep incline along one of the trails.
Despite the injuries and trauma these military personnel suffered, they all completed the over sixty-mile challenge.
Cyclists tell us it was an honor to participate.
"This is one of the great moments in Palo Duro Canyon, the group of people here are of such a caliber, and they will go home and talk to their friends, and it's great advertising for the canyon but it's also a great showpiece because everyone that came down here was just totally blown away," says Mark Bivins, participant.
The military service initiative is part of the Bush Institute's efforts to improve the lives of Americans through education, health, and publicity efforts.
NewsChannel 10 was able to get a shirt signed by the former President, which will be donated to our local Make-A-Wish foundation.
Amarillo National Bank helped bring the former President here to make this all possible.
