New application will assess wildfire risk

Amarillo, TX- Although the area's recent moisture is helpful, it does not mean the risk of fire danger is gone.

Knowing the risks is part of the goal of a new web application developed by the Texas Forest Service.

This new application will help homeowners and communities in Texas look at their wildfire risk and see potential hazards in the area.

The Texas Wildfire Risk Assessment portal or TXwrap allows users to identify threats near them based on landscape, weather conditions and history of fire problems.

The Randall County Fire Department says this will be a helpful tool for users.

"It's going to help us, help the residents and the residents to help their self and when they log on to the risk assessment website that the Texas Forest Service opened up today, it shows the levels of how the wildfires and the fuel types that we are dealing with right now," said Jacob Mitchell, a firefighter with Randall County.
