Maverick Girls and Boys Club makes a comeback

Amarillo, TX - At one time, it came close to closing its doors but now it seems doors of opportunity are opening for one after school kids program.

Now,  the Mavericks Boys and Girls Club of Amarillo is getting the same kind of second chance it offers hundred of kids. After losing donors, accountability and funding a few years ago, the organization seems to be getting back on its feet.

Over the past few years, the Mavericks Boys and Girls Club says it has been working hard to regain trust with its donors. It is placing more emphasis on the kids, what it plans to do with donors' money and is drawing in more funding.

"I think accountability is everything and our donors at this point have experienced that there has been accountability for the money that they've given," The Amarillo chapter's executive director, Vic Allcorn, said. "They want to know that their money is going to the kids."

The club says accountability has played a big role in bringing its donors back. Now, it is putting more money into hiring staff and investing in more after school activities.
