Woman indicted for New Mexico public assistance fraud

Clovis, New Mexico - A High Plains woman is indicted by a Curry County grand jury after authorities say she stole thousands of dollars through public assistance fraud.

The Ninth District Attorney's office says 35 year old Tovia O'Neal of Lubbock was claiming governmental assistance from both Texas and the state of New Mexico at the same time.

They say she used a relatives' address in Clovis to claim the assistance and over the course of three years, she stole close to $50,000 dollars in assistance.

She has been charged with one count of Misappropriating Public Assistance Over $20,000 and two counts of Misappropriating Public Assistance over $2,500. If convicted, she could spend up to 15 years in prison.
