Man arrested for promoting prostitution

Amarillo, TX - An Amarillo man accused of being involved in a prostitution ring was in a federal courtroom Thursday.

Brian Phea is charged with using the Internet and cell phone to promote prostitution, which is a federal charge.

Phea was arrested in Amarillo after investigators say he started an online relationship with a fourteen year old girl from Houston, brought her to Amarillo and then took her to Odessa where she joined a prostitution ring.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says he used the Internet and a cell phone to promote the young girl to potential clients.

Phea was in court Thursday to see if there was probable cause to charge him with the offense, and the judge says there is.

Phea will remain in U.S. Marshal custody but will be taken to Midland for a detention hearing.

If he is found guilty of the charge, he faces up to five years in prison a two-hundred and fifty thousand dollar fine.
