Calf ropers competing for Make-A-Wish

Amarillo, TX - The annual Wiley Hicks Junior Memorial Roping Competition kicked off Saturday in Amarillo with hundreds of people in attendance.

The two-day event is held at the Amarillo Tri-State Fairgrounds and has rodeo events for both kids and adults.

This is the second year in a row that the event will be a world series qualifier. People from all over come every year to show their support and it all benefits our local Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"The average cost of a wish is $7,000, so the money raised from this will go to granting more wishes," Randi Hudson with Make-A-Wish Foundation said.  "Last year, we raised a little over $57,000 dollars.  So with that being said, we've been able to grant eight wishes just from that alone."

If you didn't get a chance to make it out today, you can still stop by tomorrow. They'll be having the World Series Team roping, as well as calf roping.
