Local pharmacies impacted by prescription drug shortage

Amarillo, TX - It is a nationwide problem that pharmacists say is trickling into our area, a prescription drug shortage.

As the FDA's list of drug shortages continues to grow, some local pharmacies are feeling the strain.

Some continue to deal with problems finding chemotherapeutic medications and injectable drugs, many of which hospital patients rely upon and say it is vital to get the medication.

"All aspects of health care are being affected. Many chemotherapeutic drugs are being shorted, back-ordered with no release date, so if you're in a protocol and have been on certain chemotherapy things and one of those agents is missing that messes up your whole protocol." Robin Johnson with King's Compounding Pharmacy said.

Local pharmacists says much of the drug shortage stems from problems with getting the right raw materials and problems with manufacturing.
