Texas Panhandle golfer dies after fall from cart

STRATFORD, Texas (AP) - A Texas Panhandle teen on his school's golf team has died after apparently hitting his head during an accidental fall from a cart.

A funeral has been scheduled Saturday for 14-year-old Blaine Killian of Stratford.

The superintendent of the Stratford Independent School District said Friday that Killian suffered a fractured skull after apparently slipping and falling from a golf cart. Jerry Birdsong says the accident happened around 6 p.m. Monday at a course where the team practices. The boy died Tuesday at a hospital.

Birdsong says the squad does not use golf carts during practice. The superintendent said he believes Killian was hurt in an after-practice incident, although school officials are reviewing the timeline.

Stratford is a town of about 2,000, located 80 miles north of Amarillo.
