One local clinic is growing to help meet the growing demands of the community. Amarillo's Hillside Family Health Clinic is accepting Medicaid meanwhile many are not.

This clinic has been operating for 13 years and recently moved to a new location in order to take care of the increasing number of patients.

Owner Cathy Powers says this facility accepts all types of insurance. She says, "The insurance changes. The need for providers to see patients because they cannot find a provider to see them, either for Medicaid or Medicare or any of the other insurances."

The only exception is workers' compensation. The clinic is also the only one in our region to provide immigration services. Powers says they offer assistance to everyone from children to seniors, and they plan on adding more programs.

"New take shape program, it's a weight loss program that includes weight loss transition and maintenance of weight loss so that you can change your lifestyle. Serve patients who want their medication compounded. We're trying to get more involved in women's health as well."

Martha Mendoza Zinn joined the nurse practitioner run organization as a bilingual provider to help with all the new patients. Zinn says, " There are shortages that are happening in our community due to different insurances. And being able to take the patients that cannot have their primary care needs covered."

They've added four exams rooms and are already looking ahead. "The land was bought around this building so that we could expand to other services such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech."
