Gay couple arrested at marriage license bureau

Posted: Updated:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputies arrested two women on Valentine's Day for refusing to move from the entrance to the marriage license area of the county clerk's office in downtown Albuquerque.

The Albuquerque Journal reports 38-year-old April Parker and 31-year-old Amanda Rich were part of a group of about 40 people protesting for marriage licenses for same-sex couples.

The two women used bike locks to attach themselves to two chairs inside the office. The women were taken outside and arrested. They were not taken to jail, but were issued tickets for trespassing and disorderly conduct.
