Staying safe from wildfires

Amarillo, TX - Most of us cannot imagine losing our homes in a wildfire but that was the reality for thousands of Texans last year and it could happen again.

In these dry conditions, firefighters say a person's home could go up in flames in a matter of minutes, so the Randall County fire department is offering a Ready, Set, Go program.

Firefighters will make sure there is not anything around a home that could make it easy to catch on fire.  They say things like wooden shutters or wooden fences without metal poles near the homes are fire hazards, as well as bushes or trees that are not trimmed. Another way to keep your home safe is by keeping your lawn trimmed and well watered.
