Efforts to stop growing graffiti problem

AMARILLO, Texas - You could say men in their twenties were caught "painting the town red." Amarillo police say they caught them spray painting red designs on the roof of an Amarillo apartment complex.

Around town, you can find graffiti in several places and city officials say it is becoming a growing problem. Two men were just arrested this week and could now face fines.

They were reportedly caught tagging the roof of the Amarillo apartment complex. The city recognizes it as a problem it will no longer tolerate and has big plans ahead to stop it.

They were reportedly caught tagging the roof of the Amarillo apartment complex. Mayor Harpole recognizes it as a problem the city will not tolerate and has big plans ahead to stop it.

"We'll be 'demo-ing' some stuff with public information in terms of trying to stop it, where you'll be able to try and report that and let us know so we can start finding that and getting ahead of it," Amarillo City Manager Jarrett Atkinson said. "We'll be able to begin to talk about it and display some of the stuff that we've learned about cleaning it, like what's effective on this surface when the tagging was done.

The city's graffiti task force will meet again next month to discuss other plans of keeping Amarillo clean of graffiti.
