Program helping Amarillo students succeed in school

AMARILLO, TX - Students needing an extra helping hand with school work now have a new option to bookmark this spring semester.

The Amarillo East Branch library launched an after school homework lab program Jan. 9.

It's a new pilot program designed to help students finish assignments and provide access to web resources.

The lab will be open from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Monday through Thursday when school is in session.

It will be held in the meeting room at the East Branch Library, 2232 E. 27th Ave.

In addition to regular access to books and encyclopedia's, students will have a live chat room tutoring option function as well.

When students login using the designated laptops provided, a live agent will help each student work through problems or locate information for assignments.

The library stresses this service is to not give students the answers, but to help them solve problems and think critically.

If proven successful, the program may launch at other area libraries in the near future.
