FBI revises legal definition of rape

Amarillo, TX -- The FBI expanded their legal definition of rape to include other forms of sexual assault and crimes against men.

Since 1929, the FBI has defined rape as "...the carnal knowledge of a female, forcibly and against her will."

The agency's updated definition will encompass any situation in which the victim was incapable of consent, regardless of gender.

Although most state penal codes already contain a broader definition of the crime, the new wording will change the reporting statistics on a national level, which the FBI says will provide for more accurate reporting of sex crimes.
