Last-minute Christmas shoppers keep roads busy

AMARILLO, Texas - Traffic is getting  backed up in some areas around town with drivers trying to get their last-minute Christmas shopping done.

Some local retail stores are hiring off-duty officers with the Amarillo Police Department to try and help keep traffic moving.

Corporal Neufeld with the Amarillo Police Department says the more people cooperate, the easier it is for the officers to get drivers in and out.
"They will monitor the traffic flow and how many cars are going in and out... so they don't overload the traffic lights." Neufeld said. "We're not stopping traffic on Coulter or Soncy or anything like that. We're just trying to make it easier for people to get in and out."
