Man arrested for allegedly throwing soup

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A man has been arrested after he allegedly threw hot soup on his wife during an argument over dinner.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports New Mexico State University police were called to a residence Tuesday night after two neighbors reported hearing a woman screaming for help.

A 33-year-old Pakistani man, identified only as Zeeshan, told police the argument had started when his wife made dinner "and it was not to his liking." He said "he was not going to eat the food, and he threw it on the floor," but that he had not hit her.

Zeeshan's wife told police that Zeeshan slapped her on the left cheek, grabbed the pot of soup and threw it on her, burning her abdomen and thighs.

Zeeshan was arrested for battery on a household member.
