Judges to discuss what next in Texas redistricting

Posted: Updated:

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A panel of 3 federal judges plans to discuss what happens next in the deeply complicated legal wrangling over political districts in Texas.

The U.S. Supreme Court placed a hold on the redistricting map drafted by the San Antonio-based court last week. That move created an enormous amount of confusion over what electoral map will be used in 2012, when candidates will be allowed to file and when elections will take place.

The judges have asked those all of the parties in the suit to meet on Tuesday to discuss those matters. Experts say the most likely outcome will be two different primary elections. The first will be as scheduled on March 6, but will include only candidates for statewide or national office. Another primary will take place later.
