Amarillo, Texas - The Texas Education Agency is now investigating the Amarillo elementary school teacher arrested earlier this week.

34-year-old Julie Ann Moore is facing one charge of sexual assault of a child for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old Amarillo High student.

If convicted, the TEA will take away her teaching certificate, meaning she would never be able to teach in a Texas public school ever again.

She could work in a school in a non-teaching role, something like a janitor or cafeteria worker.

That would all change, though, if she is forced to register as a sex offender, something that is very likely if she's found guilty. A sex offender is not allowed on school grounds at all, teacher or not.

Until there is a verdict, the TEA flagged Moore's certificate, so if she were to quit AISD and try to get a job at another school district, the new district would know she's being investigated.

Moore faces up to twenty years behind bars and up to a $10,000 if she's found guilty.
