Police: NM man facing 16th DWI

Posted: Updated:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A New Mexico man is being held on $100,000 cash bail after getting arrested with what officials say is his 16th DWI.

Police say Johnny Ignacio was arrested Friday after authorities said he passed out behind the wheel and blocked traffic at an Albuquerque intersection.

Court officials say Ignacio has been convicted eight times of driving drunk and has another case pending in Nevada.

His arrest comes as Gov. Susana Martinez, public safety officials and groups like Mothers Against Drunk Drivers are vowing once again push lawmakers in January to pass a package of bills aimed at repeat drunken drivers.

It was unclear if Ignacio had hired an attorney.
